A secured card with no fixed minimum deposit and 0% interest, built entirely around the Current mobile app. It's the only card here with no APR to worry about, but it only works if you're comfortable banking through a phone.
We are not a bank or a card issuer. Every detail below comes from the issuer's own terms page, with the date we checked it.
The bottom line
Pros and cons
What we like
No fixed minimum deposit, you choose how much to set aside
0% APR, since it works by locking your own money as collateral
No annual fee
Reports to all three bureaus
What to watch
Mobile app only, no desktop application process
Requires opening and maintaining a Current account
No rewards program on the Build Card itself
Credit line is capped at whatever you personally deposit
The detailed review
Current took a different approach than the traditional secured card. Instead of a fixed minimum deposit, you decide how much of your own money to set aside inside the Current app, and that amount becomes your credit line. There's no interest charged, because the card is secured by funds you already control.
The catch is the delivery: this is not a card you apply for on a website. Everything, from opening the account to funding the deposit to managing the card, happens inside Current's mobile app. If you're not comfortable doing your banking primarily on a phone, this adds real friction.
For someone who wants a traditional online application and a fixed, published deposit range instead, Capital One's Platinum Secured is a more conventional path.
